I don't know enough about the Good Book, so this is just coming from memories of long ago.

I find gLuke's crucifixion to be extremely incredible. Just imagine being under excrutiating torture and pain and yet still have the ability to converse with others who are also being tortured and carry out a coherent conversation with them.

Unless Jesus was actually a God, I consider the crucifixion, as described, to be fiction.

Why not take it one step further and say that Jesus is a mythological being all together? It makes a lot more sense.

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

There's more to it of course, but you get the gist, don't you?
I love that scene. Good one, spin.

Ben.

The Docetae.
Their name is derived from dokesis, "appearance" or "semblance", because they taught that Christ only "appeared" or "seemed" to be a man, to have been born, to have lived and suffered.
They are not considered by the Catholic Encyclopedia as simply heretics, but, much worse, they were akin to the gnostics. Bouh !

Isn't this a major doctrinal difference between Catholics and protestants? Remember punctuation had not been invented and it is therefore arguable where today belongs.

(But I vote for Seneca writing the my god line, then Brian's version!)

I would imagine that all of those crucified had very similar final words - and Jesus would have been no exception.

I would suggest the quotes provide insight into the authors' Christologies more than insight into a historical Jesus' final words.

I consider the Jesus of NT to be mythical or fictional, I simply assumed he was human for the purpose of illustrating that the crucifixions of the NT all appear to be fictional.

Without actually going and performing an experiment, I think it is rather difficult for us today to know how capable one was of communicating coherently while crucified. I guess the people of that era (and the Romans crucified thousands during the siege of Jerusalem) knew better than we do.
