Default The Joy of Blogs: Attracting Fruitcakes like Flies

Got this in the email. Why me? This is God's punishment for my atheism.
_________
Hello Michael,

You don't know me, but I happened upon you and your website through
mention of you in Steven Carlson's Synoptic-Gospels blog. It was interesting to view your website, in which I couldn't resist spending the time to
scroll down through all those interesting photos of life in Taiwan. I'm a
retired professor from the field of atmospheric sciences who took up NT studies as an independent scholar starting around 1984. I only once visited Taiwan back with the Navy around 1953.

In 1984 I happened upon a lengthy document that purports to tell the true story of Jmmanuel (alias Jesus), as discovered in 1963 by a UFO contactee
(Eduard Meier of Switzerland) and his friend, an ex-Greek-Othodox priest
(Isa Rashid) whose father was Palestinian and who knew Aramaic and had
learned the old Aramaic. (Since then I've read through I don't know how
many channelings that purport to tell some of the same, but they're all
inane in comparison with this one, called the Talmud of Jmmanuel, or TJ
for short). It was discovered near the Akeldama tombs area just south of
the Old City, buried within a mostly buried tomb.

Since then I've been finding more and more hundreds of reasons why the
TJ looks genuine while its most parallel Gospel, Matthew (not Mark!) looks
like it was constructed out of the TJ rather than vice versa (using mainly
redaction criticism). So from time to time I try to interest an NT scholar
here or there in the TJ. However, not only does it have these two strikes
against it: (a) from it one deduces that Matthew preceded Mark, and (b)
it contains some passages indicating that what we now call a UFO was
involved, along with its humanoid alien occupant or angel, but (c) one must have seriously looked into the evidence supporting reincarnation before one
can appreciate it. So if I've been at all successful, I'm not yet aware of
it, as no reputable scholar would dare let me know if he had looked into it
and found it of interest to him, lest I inform others. Along with these
drawbacks, we also have that: (d) the TJ, which was being translated
from its old Aramaic into German by Rashid, was destroyed by authorities due
to its heresies (I need only mention J's survival of the crucifixion, when
some news of its existence and content evidently leaked out in 1974.
But Meier had already received the translations from 1963 up till around
1970 from Rashid via mail, and as a result we now have a document some 30% longer than Matthew, which Meier first published in German in 1978.
Neither Meier nor Rashid were in any sense archaeologists, so their find and
subsequent translation project was kept secret as long as possible.
Meier wanted the TJ's content published, and he & Rashid feared that handing the TJ rolls over to any others would be the last he or any others would ever hear of them.

I mention the scholarly drawbacks early, in case you would know just from them alone that you wouldn't want to waste your time on it. But if interested at all, you could view my website to learn about its provenance, and comparisons against Matthew, etc., and I'd be glad to hear back
from you.

Sincerely,

Jim Deardorff

:rolling: Oh the places we go, oh the kooks we know

I thought TJ was abolished the minute it came out? I mean, even Secret Mark has more attestations than TJ.

Eduard "Billy" Meier is quite famous (infamous) for his *ahem* completely unfaked and genuine photos of UFOs. Hardly the most reliable source.

The UFOs look suspiciously like hubcaps don't you think?
