Default Nontheist Billboard Greets NYC Area Motorists

The image above is of a billboard which is now up on the New Jersey Turnpike just outside NYC. (For those in the area who are interested, it's facing southbound traffic just north of exit 18 near the Meadowlands.) It carries the following simple, positive and provocative message: "Don't believe in God? You are not alone."

The ad was placed by FreeThoughtAction, a new organization using traditional advertising and the internet to market secularism in a positive and provocative way. FreeThoughtAction is planting a few billboards and other ads around the country to "seed" a grassroots movement raising the profile of "freethinkers," a broad term that includes atheists, agnostics, humanists, secularists, skeptics and others who do not have a belief in the existence of a God or gods.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, inquires and emails of thanks and praise have been pouring in. The billboard has been covered in a number of various "freethought" groups, blogs, and discussion forums. It has also been covered by the New 12 New Jersey cable channel and was on the front page of the Sunday January 13 edition of the Bergen Record (North Jersey) newspaper [link to the article here: http://www.northjersey.com/news/reli...rom_above.html].

In addition to some online advertising, FreeThoughtAction plans to have two billboards up next month -- this one and one on the West Coast (the exact location of the second billboard has not been finalized). The campaign will continue indefinitely based on contributions with additional billboards across America.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and an independent adjunct of the American Humanist Association, all donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

This is the first campaign, but not the last. FTA plans to continue creating marketing and public relations programs to increase the size and influence of the freethought community to help America evolve into a more rational, less superstitious society.

I am posting this information because I thought it might be of interest to this community.

Default Sorry...

I believe I mistakenly started this thread in the wrong section of the forum. I have since reposted it in the General Discussion section. My apologies.

Wonder how long it will take before it's vandalized.

I think there may already be a thread on this in PA&SA. I will close this and move it if needed.
