Default Jesus is Coming

Jesus is Coming

by rjosephhoffmann

Congratulations to Maurice Casey: This book is the meticulous work of a serious scholar-craftsman and Aramaist and the culmination of a thorough investigation of the work of the internet Christ Mythtics and of the discredited theories they advocate. It is a thunderous and unsparimg reply to the amateurs, and an invitation to take up critical investigation of the New Testament documents in a serious way, infected by neither religious dogma, political ideology, nor atheist master theories based on conspiracy theories. Maurice Casey is Professor Emeritus of New Testament Studies at the University of Nottingham and a director of the Jesus Process. Further information is available from the Publisher, T&T Clark.

Hi maryhelena,

Nice sexy polemical title. It seems some people are getting hot under the collar over this issue. I think I will call my next book "Jesus Never Came: Truth and Evidence versus the Historical Jesus Myth."

Warmly,

Jay Raskin

Unless Maurice Casey is an inventor or a magician it is ALREADY exposed that an historical Jesus cannot be recovered.

ALL SOURCES that mentioned Jesus are NOT known to be credible or have ever claimed they SAW or met him as an actual human being with a human father.

I'm just gonna nail him right back up on a cross, so he's best not to come at all. Dude never learns.

Maurice Casey's research assistant, Stephanie Fisher, has made reference, if my memory serves me well, on numerous occasions to this new book by Casey. i.e. this book has long been in the pipeline.....and Steph, herself, according to Casey, has worked with him on "material about mythicists".

Quote:
While Steph has been here, she has effectively worked as my research assistant too, without being in any sense subordinate to me. She has been wonderful working both on my last book, Jesus of Nazareth, and on material about mythicists.

Hot under the collar, yep. If Casey's article on Hoffmann's site is any indication about the tone of this new book - Casey is going to let all the agro spill out......

Mythicism: A Story of Bias, Incompetence and Falsehood

One of the most remarkable features of public discussion of Jesus of Nazareth in the twenty-first century has been a massive upsurge in the view that this important historical figure did not even exist.

<snip>

Unlike published scholarly work, the internet is uncontrolled and apparently uncontrollable. Two of the most influential writers of published work advocating the mythicist view, that is, the view that Jesus was not a historical figure, but rather a myth, appeal directly to an audience on the internet.

<snip>

The internet audience is ‘lay’, but it is not open-minded. It has both ‘Christian apologists’, whom mythicists love to hate, and atheists who are determinedly anti-Christian. Both groups consist largely of people with closed minds who are impervious to evidence and argument, a quite different world from the critical scholars among whom I am happy to have spent most of my life, whether they were Christian, Jewish or irreligious.
That's it - the biggest challenge to the historicists position - the internet! A modern form of communication to be the downfall of the historicists JC - oh, how they must be so frustrated when things get out of their control...

ROFL. How unintentionally revealing.

I suspect it will be no better than Ehrman's. Waiting for Steve Carr's post on "Did he discuss Doherty in Detail?"
