There are better translations available:

The Dead Sea Scrolls Translated, Florentino Garcia Martinez, Brill/Eerdmans

The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation, Michael Wise, Martin Abegg, Jr., and Edward Cook, Harper

For really keen people,

The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition (2 vols), Martinez & Tigchelaar, Brill/Eerdmans

This pair includes transcriptions of the original languages.

Eerdmans has also put out quite a range of single volumes about the scrolls, each volume containing a number of useful though specialist essays. Volumes include "The Bible at Qumran", "The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Origins of the Bible", "Religion in the Dead Sea Scrolls" and various others.

A book on Messianism with respect to the scrolls is "The Sceptre and the Star", J.J. Collins.

what is wrong with Geza Vermez's translation, that makes you question his scholarship and translation ?

what are YOUR qualifications to make this statement?

I can't speak for spin, but Vermes's book is not complete, because it doesn't include fragmentary scrolls or biblical books. It only has 70 texts whereas Martinez's book has 270, the Michael Wise, Martin Abegg, Jr., and Edward Cook has 300.

I think many scholars consider Vermes' translation to be less literal than others.

There's also The Dead Sea Scrolls Reader. 6 vols. Parry, Donald, and Emanuel Tov. Leiden: Brill, 2004-5 that just came out, it is possibly an improvement over The Dead Sea Scrolls Study Edition, in that it includes notation to indicate damaged letters.

I think you are lucky the other poster supplied you with an answer, if you want to know.

You get what you earn. I haven't seen in your 39 posts any evidence that you are in a position to make any judgments.

LOL

Martinez book is in Spanish...so the English version would be a translation of Martinez translation

and of course Martinez sees the Scrolls, most written centuries before Jesus to 100 yrs after Jesus, through his Christian prism, no?

You seem a little petty Spin

maybe when you grow up

whatever

Who are these people, and when have they actually ever seen a Dead Sea scroll before? Jeesh, is now everyone a Dead Sea scholar?

BTW - spin, thanks for the pictures. It's coming along better now as I compare it to me Martinez.
