You guys got it all wrong. His hair really was blonde and his eyes were blue, because he was the illegitimate son of Pantera, a German soldier from beyond the Rhine...

Sure, why not? The picture's just supposed to be an average joe from 1st century Palestine. There's no reason to think it looks more like Jesus than like John the Baptist or Peter or Caiaphas or Judas or anyone else from that time and location.

(On second thought, Luke 1:15 suggests that John the Baptist was a nazarite, like Samson. So he would have had long hair.)

I would have loved to seen the reaction if Mel Gibson had picked someone who looked like the depiction from the original post, rather than the Jeremy Irons looking Jesus. I could see the uproar even though no one knew what he looked liked.

I saw a Scandinavian looking Jesus (actually looking like a supermodel in shape) infront of a thatched roof cottage on a print from the 40's. It was badly faded in parts or I would have spent the $1.25 just to see some of our local Orthodox priests break out into uncontrolled laughter.

Back in the late 1940s, our Mom gave my baby Brother a best-seller popular edition of the so-called Holy Bible for children, with profuse illustrations; and the Jesus depicted therein was emphatically a slim tall WASP faggy-looking longhaired BLOND with blue eyes and a pale white skin. No wristwatch tho.

And look at the images RC ladies have in their houses. There are a number of Promises about the goodies which will come (automatically) to those who display these damned-fictional imageries. e.g. the Sacred Heart, and those various statues of the alleged Virgin Mary in her various alleged apparitions.
