Default Is all knowledge in the Bible?

Is all knowledge in the Bible? this is something that seems to keep many Bible bashers going, it does not matter what you say, the answers in there somewhere. Its no good going into detail about science or whatever it is that makes all the sense to you, the leap of faith is the standard reply. But its a reply that is based on the Bible having all the answers, does it, yeah right, history can tell a different story, use it well, no leap of faith overcome documented history, can it?

Why, of course, all knowledge is in the bible! You want to get rid of ailments, turn to Jesus! You have all the answers to life's origins, why "evil" exists, and Gawd's solutions to rid us of evil. Science never got us anywhere, don't you know?

This doesn't seem to be Biblical Criticism. I think it might do better in GRD.

I am not certain that many people would claim that all knowledge is in the Bible. For instance, I doubt many people would suggest that the Bible provides knowledge of open heart surgery, for instance.

Are there actually people who believe this? It looks an awful lot like a straw man to me.

No not all knowledge is in the Bible, the Bible is very specific. You can't contain an infinite amount of knowledge in a few thousand pages.

As a knowledge base to Faith and Practice, it can't be beat!

As a Science, Math, Physics, etc. knowledge base, not so much...

You are vicitim of the evil secularist education machine. Why do you think the Amish stop educating their children after 8th grade? No sir, education is the path to Satan.

Although it is absurd to claim that the Bible contains all knowledge, a more reasonable claim is that the Bible contains the key to obtaining all knowledge. This would be something like an algorithm for solving some problem.

Consider how we learn how to do arithmetic. The single-digit cases we learned individually, but for the multidigit cases, we learned algorithms for doing the operations.

So does the Bible have any comparable algorithm for finding all knowledge?

The closest thing to such an algorithm is sometimes called the "scientific method"; there is not much of that in the Bible, if any at all.

Does the Bible describe anything comparable to Francesco Redi's classic test of spontaneous generation? I'm not aware that it does; this is a classic controlled experiment, and it does not require very advanced technology. In fact, the writers of the Bible could have performed it without much trouble.
