Is this going to be like your other threads where we respond in detail to your assertions, you ignore us and ask irrelevant questions and continue to ask them after we don't give you the answer you want to hear? Just wondering if I should bother wasting my time with this one or not.

The magic sky daddy could very easily have protected us from STD's by not creating them in the first place or, failing that, by not allowing them onto the Ark. Instead, we have a lovely bit of circular logic: STD's are there to punish us for sexual misconduct, while the rules against sexual misconduct are there to protect us from STD's.

This poll is like asking if you are still hitting your wife! I can't imagine why anyone would even answer it.

No? Wow, Allah must truly be god since he was the only one.
Yes? Okay, name them.

What kind of a question is this? Missing option: No one knew about AIDS fourteen centuries ago. Why do you think I would ever assume that Allah exists?

Did anyone other than the Easter Bunny knew about AIDS 1400 years ago?

I did. And are there any sexual statistic from the theocracies of the middle east? Namely Iran and Saudi-Arabia. I cannot see how religion is going to prevent STDs though, it isn't like the laws and absolutes of religion are adhered to at every moment.

How common is AIDS among Christians in Ethiopia?

The reason I ask is this:

In Ethiopia, the morning after a wedding, they hang the sheets from the wedding night out for everyone to see. There is supposed to be blood on them. If there is not, there may be a major problem.

In other words, the society is extremely conservative in sexual matters and sexual promiscuity is quite rare. It is also not, for the most part, a Muslim society. I think the largest religion is a very old sect of Christians called the Copts.

However, it is geographically and economically very similar to many Muslim societies of North Africa and the Middle East, in that it is still based economically on herding and agriculture, still rural, etc.

So, I do not think the connection between Islam and sexual conservativism is more than a coincidence.

For instance, from my reading of the Qu'ran, it appears to me that Mohamed was propping up or modifying laws for the punishment of the sexually profligate which were already in place in Arabian society before he came. In particular, he obviously didn't invent the practice of stoning adulterers (which as I understand it isn't even in the Qu'ran, actually).

I think Marx gives a much better explanation for the lack of sexual promiscuity in that part of the world than theologists can: Men want to make sure that their biological children inherit their livestock. That it also protects people from this terrible plague is no more than a happy coincidence.

Funny that, hitting your wife was the suggestion made by a friend of mine in reaction to this, but I felt it might have religious connotations wrt Islam so I didn't post it

I gave the evidence for that i.e., he did prescribe the measures for the protection from AIDS in the Qur'an that was revealed fourteen centuries back and as a consequence the Muslims enjoy the protection today.

I would be much more impressed if you had pointed out instructions in the Qu'ran for making anti-retrovirals. Seems to me the parts you have pointed to protect against AIDS but serve some other purposes as well.
