Funny, I was just discussing this over at christianforums dot com. Someone pasted a link to some "100 prophecies fulfilled"-site or other. I picked out Ezekiel 29:15 since it makes some bombastic statements about Egypt:
Quote:
It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations.
My reasoning went like this:
1. Egypt was never the basest of the kingdoms.
2. Egypt, under the ruler Mohammad Ali (a viceroy of the ottoman empire, who made himself king or equivalent of Egypt) Conquered Sudan in the 19th century. So Ezekiels "never" is debunked.
3. Egypt isn't a Kingdom.

Woe to Ezekiel for not thinking ahead and making such easy targets of his prophecies. Some prophet.

[/sarcasm] How ridiculous is that any prophecy that isn't fulfilled is reserved for the future, even if the TEXT DOESNT SAY SO. Even though you read it, you obviously know nothing about the Bible. To justify your claims you must ADD JUSTIFICATIONS AND CAVEATS TO GOD'S WORD which is a sin.

40 year desolation of Egypt past or future? Try: NEVER.
Mr. Darkwater, remember in Ezekiel of the prophecy of Gog the king of the north, God makes it clear that the prophets did foretell his coming. But the prophets does not mention him I had always thought it was about Nebby...but it is not. Listen to what Jeremiah says about this mysterious killer. "Behold he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled." ch.4. "Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the NORTH, and a great destruction. The lion is come up from his thicket, and the DESTROYER OF THE GENTILES is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make your land DESOLATE; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant." And in the same Chapter here is the key hint that shows that this takes place in the end: "I beheld the earth, and lo, it was without form, and void; and the HEAVENS, THEY HAD NO LIGHT. I beheld the mountians and lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly (Huge Earthquake). I beheld, and lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens had fled away. I beheld and Lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities there were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and His fierce anger." Jeremiah 4

And later Nebuchadnezzar comes on the scene: "Behold, I will send and take all the families of the NORTH says the Lord, and NEBUCHADNEZZAR the king of Babylon My servent, and will bring them against this land......" Jeremiah 25

The king of the north is not Nebby, he is none the less decribed through the personification of Nebby. Just like Satan is decribed through the King of Tyrus (which is partly about the actual king and then another part that shows that this is not even about a man.), and according to Jesus John the Baptist through Elijah. You have to look at the hints.

Here is what God says Nebby would do against Egypt: ..."and he shall take her multitude (army) and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army." Now this was how his army was paid by looting the defeated Egyptians but his payment was this: I have given him the land of Egypt for his labour...." What does this means? "And now have I given ALL these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar....And ALL nations shall SERVE him." Jeremiah 27. The nations would become tributaries to Babylon including Egypt.

It is the king of the north the Abomination that causes Desolation who is to desolate Egypt as Daniel says: "He shall stretch his hand against the countries...and Egypt shall not escape."

You have accused me of making things up by going to different prophets, chapters...But critics do not understand that the prophets do not contradict each other and they correspond to one another. This is why they often fail when trying to interpret a prophecy, because you don't get the whole picture from one prophet or prophecy.

Right, the bible is actually 60 books but they are all consistent within each other even though they were written by different prophets across a time span of thousands of years from Genesis to Revelations.

Well since he is only going to smite Egypt I guess the 99.9 percent of the planet really don't have a worry do we. So sometime in the near future lets say another 2000 years we can expect a 40 year desolation in Egypt. Hmmm a totally inhospitable land with finite resources and a tenuous ecosystem dependent on one river. It hasn't happened in the last 2000 years so probably the chance of it happening within the next 2000 years are I will acquiesce probable. Then again since Yahweh cant defeat iron chariots methinks we will just send a tank out and call it a day. Better yet how about some gang bangers with an Uzi and a Cadillac Escalade.

Ezekiel couldn't even predict the musket let alone Iron chariots that can lay waste to entire city's in the matter of minutes. Come back when you can prove he accurately predicts something before it happens. I am talking day time and year and precisely what is going to happen.
Keep in mind the elements for gunpowder were known and were available in China during the reign of Emperor Wu Di (156-87 B.C.) and explosive projectile technology was available just not as a weapon yet. so you think he could of been more imaginative then horses and bows and arrows. Might of well as said thrown rocks and sticks jumped up and down pounded chest. Better yet are troops going to form a dreaded phalanx?
One fire team from todays marines would devastate and entire army of the bronze age world their only problem is whether they could carry enough ammunition.

To sugarhitman:
Why do you take such glee in the worlds destruction? I can envision you salivating at all these people dieing who had NOTHING to do with your bible god or his chosen people. What part of 2000 years ago do you not get? The people today had nothing to do with the Jewish migration or any of its prophets. Besides its the Jewish god not the Christian one. Christians follow a false Prophet called Jesus and if they are in Egypt during the smiting will be smited. (isn't smite a wonderful word). I am sure it has been pointed out to you over and over again that Jews don't believe he is the Messiah because he did not fulfill ANY of their requirements.
Also when will you admit that Armageddon is not coming? so you say its soon. when? Tell everyone a precise date since you seam to have the inside scoop.
You hint its in your life time. So Next month? ten years? How about you give us a date and we accept it as the absolute truth and await the glory of bronze age warriors coming down and smiting a country the size of Georgia? Heck do it right you could probably get pay per view and make millions.
Yeah maybe Ezekiel should have said "He shall come against you with tanks, and aeroplanes and assault rifles with bayonets on the end of them, he shall come against you like when America against Veitnam." Silly. Do I take glee at the destruction of the world?, no but I will do no sugar coating niether. So if I offend you too bad.
you did not offend me at all but you did dismiss mine and the previous questions as usual you make a statement and then refuse to answer the simplest questions. And yes had Ezekiel made a prediction that was in the future accuratly describing modern day war machines it would give more weight to your argument. Since it doesn't it pretty much lands him today a job in the national enquirer. But since you have the inside track when will it happen. give date time and exactly what will happen. And since it affects only Egypt why does that matter for the other 99.9 percent of the world and why should we care?

If there ever is a worldwide disruption of oil production what kind of warfare will be conducted?

Last time I checked, Jeremiah 25 wasn't in the Book of Ezekiel.

We're not talking about the "king of the north". The subject of this thread is Ezekiel's failed prophecy that Nebby would take, plunder, and depopulate Egypt.

And we're not talking about Daniel, Jeremiah or Isaiah either (though, interestingly, all three of those are false prophets in their own right).

It's amazing how much waffle an apologist will generate to obscure a plainly and obviously failed prophecy.

.
And your argument is that it is a failed prophecy because Ezekiel wrote it after the fact and didn't record historical events correctly, right?

Goal post shift now you bring in Jeremiah? Oh so hills tremble lightly. sorry if thats unimpressive after living 18 years on the garlock fault in California. So you want me to take seriously the word of a guy who could not foresee horses strong enough to support humans in the very near future? The reason for chariots was because horses of that time were small and unable to hold a man on their back, through breeding the slowly became larger and were able to but that is why there are chariots int he first place. Ezekiel couldn't see a few hundred years into the future let alone 2000+ years. Also as i keep pointing out your a GENTILE! your not a Jew your a GENTILE so anything that is supposed to happen to GENTILES happens to YOU! Also the words trembled and moved are used that means one is the earthquake (trembled) and MOVED! So the mountains are going to noticeably move? lightly? how far is that in measure and thats all mountains right the Carpathians, the Appalachians, the Colorado's, the alps? do you know what would happen with that much continental drift and displacing all mountains? When you came on board you made some pretty outstanding claims. I for one want to believe in a merciful and fantastic god and a afterlife. its a wish. unfortunately people like yourself and others continually remind me how asinine the arguments are. I am not the scholar most are here and i try and read everything but your arguments cant even convince this low brow mechanic. but i encourage you keep trying.

one that isn't done with chariots, horses, bows and arrows i can pretty much predict that! Hey look i am a better prophet than Ezekiel, at least i can get something right.
