When I think of Christ-mythicism, I think of an angel in Islam or Mormonism.

I have read most (but not all) of Doherty's stuff online. I've read summaries of Wells and The Jesus mysteries works as well. I have no intimate familiarity with the mystery religions, but if I were to think of Christ-mythicism along lines that I have some familiarity with, it sounds like the idea that Paul was visited by an "angel" named the Son or "Christ", just as Mohammad was visited by an angel Gabriel, and Joseph Smith was visited by an angel named Moroni.

A Christ mythicist analogy to Mormonism or Islam would be later writers attempting to write this angel visitation in terms of actual history.

An analogy would be later generations of Mormons writing of the angel Moroni as a real person, visiting Andrew Jackson and other historical figures of Joseph Smith's time period.
