Woo Hoo - I got me a Finkelstein and a Friedman...
My latest purchases from Amazon arrived this moring...
Finkelstein's "The Bible Unearthed", and Friedman's "The Bible With Sources Revealed". Friedman should be fairly familiar, since I have already read his "Who Wrote The Bible", but I haven't read any Finkelstein before... From what I gather from discussions with other people, he is much more of a minimalist than Friedman and argues against a Judea/Israel competitive authorship of J and E due to the paucity of evidence for a developed pre-exilic Israel and Judea. Any advice from people here? or should I just dive in? |

Dive in! Finkelstein's book is emminently readable and the case well presented. It will be interesting to see how well it holds up with the inevitable future archeological finds.
