Default Woo Hoo - I got me a Finkelstein and a Friedman...

My latest purchases from Amazon arrived this moring...

Finkelstein's "The Bible Unearthed", and Friedman's "The Bible With Sources Revealed".

Friedman should be fairly familiar, since I have already read his "Who Wrote The Bible", but I haven't read any Finkelstein before... From what I gather from discussions with other people, he is much more of a minimalist than Friedman and argues against a Judea/Israel competitive authorship of J and E due to the paucity of evidence for a developed pre-exilic Israel and Judea.

Any advice from people here? or should I just dive in?

Dive in! Finkelstein's book is emminently readable and the case well presented. It will be interesting to see how well it holds up with the inevitable future archeological finds.

I'm currently reading Finkelstein's "The Bible Unearthed". I've read about half of it so far. It's very interesting, scholarly and weel-written. Dive in
