4th July - Americans risking damnation
Proverbs 8:15-16 By me kings reign
and rulers make laws that are just; by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth Romans 13:1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. The Divine Right of Kings is one of the most well-established Biblical principles, and for Americans to celebrate that they have brought judgement on themselves by getting rid of the British King is risking the wrath of God. http://academic.brooklyn.cuny.edu/hi...ore4-02r04.htm makes clear that scripture was totally on the British side Surely, this whole Divine Right of Kings business illustrates that people read into the Bible whatever they want. There are no moral absolutes in it. This is what history shows us - the Bible is a tool to be used for political purposes in the support of the current regime (whichever regime that is at the time), and is not a blueprint, which can be read to decide which political system is best. Biblical criticism is an exercise in cultural relativism, and not a method of discerning objective truths. |

There are lots of moral absolutes in the Bible. Unfortunately, many of them are just wrong. |
