Question about the Old Testament and The 10 commandments
Hi Everyone. I have a question about the bible and the ten commandments. Specifically, are the ten commandments found anywhere inside the new testament?
When speaking with Christians about the bible, they will dismiss anything that makes them uncomfortable by saying that it’s the old testament And they don’t have to follow it anymore. It would be nice to be able point out that the ten commandments are in the OT. Also, it would sure make the people trying to get the ten commandments put into court rooms look (even more) stupid- since there are a lot more OT “laws that they seem to be ignoring! |

The Ten Commandments are only in the Hebrew Scriptures, not the New Testament, although Christians claim to find references to them in the NT.
In fact, the Jesus of the NT seems to have a different idea of the commandments: Mt 19:16-19 "And behold, one came to Him and said, "Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?" And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." He said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus lists 5 of the 10, omits some of the 10c (keeping the sabbath, not coveting, idolatry, etc.) and adds loving your neighbor as yourself. |

The ten commandments that were written by the "Finger of God" in Exodus 34:1-27 these were to replace the tables that Moses broke in Exodus 32:17.
These are the commandments that were written on the tables of stone. The ten commandments most people are familiar with are ORAL commandments that are found in Exodus 20:1-17. These are ten of some 600+ commandments. Only ten however are supposed to have been written by God, or Moses, depending on how you read the story, (it argues with itself). |

Oh by the way Jay they do look stupid....real stupid trying to place a simile of something that didn't exist. For those willing to take the time to read the story, you'll see that the ten commandments were meant for the jewish people, whereas the ten commandments that most people, esp. christians claim are the "Ten Commandments" are more universal commandments. But you can see how much time people spend reading something that they profess to believe in.

I believe the pharisees ask Jesus which commandment is the greatest and Jesus replies, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." I think its in Matt. 22:33-35 I may be wrong on that.
I think this is one of the main references to the ten commandments in the NT |

Even Jesus/God doesn't know the commandments, so how is one to blame their sheep?
