Default The Ten Commandments...

So like, if God MADE the Ten Commandments and gave them to Moses then why didn't he make them out of like Platinum, or some indistructable material, etc?

Why would God make something for man out of the existing man made technology of the times? Seems the 10C would be a lot more impressive if they have been made out of an unknown alloy or something eh?

Like, I have a hard time beleiveing that anyone would believe that God made the Ten Commandments out of stone during a time whem people "wrote" in stone.... I mean.. umm.... :banghead:

Why does God do any of the weak-ass things he does? He can create the heavens and earth, but he can't prove his own existence, preferring rather blind faith. What a jerk-ass, this Yahweh.

According to Graham Hancock, the Ten Commandments weren't. They were a special material deposited into the Ark of the Covenant, which thenceforth slew anyone who came near who wasn't specially protected. Also, it's in Ethiopia now.

Heh, I just read this book and I couldn't resist.

Platinum isn't indestructible, and why would He make it out of platinum? What would be the point? God came to Moses at the top of Mount Sinai. Its expected that He would carve the commandments out of the stone of the mountain. The Israelites knew what stone was; they knew it was solid and concrete (no pun intended). They didn't have a clue what Platinum was.

So, God's powers are limited to doing things that his followers are familiar with and can comprehend?

This is more explicable on the thesis that he is a spectre in the imagination of his followers than on the thesis that he is an all-pwerful being.

They didn't have a clue about the world outside the Middle East/Egypt but that didn't stop them from believing the Flood story, did it?

If God had written the Ten Comandments on the moon with kilometer big letters and given Moses a telescope, there wouldn't be any atheist, muslims or christians. We'd all be jews. Think about that

I imagine the bronze-age goathearders would have been more impressed by shiny things, so engraving the commandments in metal plates would have been more, you know, impressive to them.

Which is why it would be more impressive when their Ten Special Rules were carved in it. At least the Mormons had the sense to make their revelations carved in plates of gold, even if they seem to have conveniently disappeared...

Baal or Yahweh or whoever needs to invest more time and thought in his prospects.

'I shall hand down the law for the ages and I'll write it on these rocks, be sure not to mislay them in a golden box that'll surely be stolen should the land be pilaged. D'oh!'
