Smile Volcano God

Been doing a bit of reading on volcano gods...then re-read exodus and thought Hey! This God is no different.
Judaism is the only religion that has claimed 'national revelation' because of all Israel being present at Sinai when God spoke to them.
But did they actually hear a human type voice?

I found Exodus 20:19 (JPS Hebrew/English Tanakh) to be interesting in that it says...

The Lord said to Moses: Thus shall you say to the Israelites: You yourself saw that I spoke to you from the very heavens.

They didn't hear that he spoke...they saw it.

So what did they hear, I suspect only a volcano erupting.

If the Israelites didn't have 'national revelation' but only 'personal revelation' through Moses, then they are no different to every other religion out there that can also only claim 'personal revelation' which at best is VERY dubious because of the potential for corruption.

I don't think Sinai was an active volcano within the required time period.

Not really. The legend could have been about a volcano, and thus the old imagery imposed upon the newer legend (of Moses).
