Any good theories out there about who that naked young man is in Mark 14:51-52? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon Magus was also arrested. He was the "young man" who was seized and "fled away naked". Brought before Caiaphas, he was condemned, expelled from the ministry, and so defrocked. We talks about evidence before as beink impotent. Well, here we are with it at its most impotent. Who viser than offa to introduce this gem. Simon Magus, who is never mentioned in a gospel, is actually the young man wot runs away naked?! Wot a disco very, very, very. I'd never haff thought of it, but then I dont haff the method, the fishy-peshy-pesher method. It's better than the rhythm method. It's cheaper than the Berkley method. And it's safer than the calendar method. Simon Magus was arrested. What a wonder-blonder-miss onder sta-sta-stan ding! ding! ding! DONG! I never thought of that: daddy will be pleased. BT probably even has the scene between Simon and Caiaphas on video-tape. Sex, Lies and Videotape. I'm still smarting over her old hide theory to explain why C14 doesn't support her analyses. Who else would ever have thought of those wily E-scenes writing on old hides just to trick us into thinking BT was wrong? Who else but Babs the Wizardess of Oz? pins |

Well, Spin ... you have spun. I simply answered the question asked in the original opening of this thread. BTW, Simon Magus is mentioned often in the New Testament. You ever hear of Simony? You have exposed yourself... go crawl back into your closet. offa |

Was it he who helped carry the cross? In that case you may have a point and I am not really surprised that your 'detour' will get you there.

pins [ ] correctly states that Simon Magus is never mentioned in a gospel, but he may be mentioned in Acts 8:9-12, where the word simony does in fact originate.
edited to add: Thiering on Simon Magus does not mention the naked young man from Mark. Is this offa's interpretation? |

He was the "young man" who was seized and "fled away naked". Brought before Caiaphas, he was condemned, expelled from the ministry, and so defrocked is a direct quotation from the above mentioned book and the page number is cited. You can find the same sentence in "Jesus the Man", p.146. BTW, Toto, thanks for the URL, I think I will go back and read it. offa |

Simon Magus was also arrested. He was the "young man" who was
seized and "fled away naked".6 p.109 The reference on page 422 says. "6 Mk 14:51-52." BTW, Thiering often has inconclusive references, kind of circular. Carefully read the opening (#1) verse in this thread and check my answer out. I answered one of the questions and gave a reference ... what more was I supposed to do? I suppose pins was talking about "carbon dating". I felt his post was incoherent. This thread is not about carbon dating. But, Thiering has her opinion and, Robert Eisenman led me to believe that he agrees with her because he writes a similar critique. I do not trust the dating because the original people doing the Scrolls were religiously affiliated. Religious people have a tendency to sell ocean-front property in Arizona. offa |
