I didn't ask you where your info was coming from to be snarky. I honestly wanted to know where the idea of the spirit/Mary/something to do with Purgatory is sourced from. I thought you might rec a book or website.
According to me the gospels take place in what we call Purgatory which really is the period between rebirth and resurrection.

I get my stuff from the Gospels and various sources of lyric poetry. I like poetry best because it gives me much more freedom to find what I am looking for and it is less likely to be slanted by translators with a certain point of view.

One of my favorites in this area is a translation of the Chinese poem by Pound. It is called "A River Merchant's Wife: A letter" and here we see that this river merchant's wife is our Mary who will come to meet him as far as "Cho-fu-sa."

I have no time now but I once did an explication of this poem along this train of thought.

I don't think that this is always useful though. Certainly, we're going to have problems with Athirat, Athtar, Athtart, Asherah, Ashtarot, Ishtar, Ashertu, etc. How many people would be able to spot the odd ones out based on cognate relation?

As we shall recall, the title of "Lady of Heaven" was given to Anath and Astarte by their Egyptian worshipers, which makes it more likely that the "Queen of Heaven" who formed the subject of a heated argument between Jeremiah and his Judean fellow-refugees in Egypt was none other than the "virgin Anath," the "maid" Astarte.
Jeremiah's queen of heaven doesn't sound like Anat to me at all. Anat was a bloodthirsty meanass bitch (to use non-technical language) who kills people (and gods) and devours them. Yeah, she was a virgin, but that's because none of the other gods would touch her. What's Patai's reference?
