Jesus is dead
I am so glad that he is dead, the jews and roman law killed him.
I know that my grandparents are not burning for eternity in an eternal hellfire forever. I am happy that I do not have to worry about myself going to hell and burn forever. I am happy that I do not have to go to church and follow any of the ten commandments. Of course I have to make the best of my life because I only have one chance at it. |

Mark, do you ever post anything that doesn't belong in Elsewhere? What the heck is the point of this post?

Christians think they're supposed to follow the Ten Commandments, but seem a little confused as to just what they are. For example, they ones they usually cite from Exodus 20 (repeated in Deuteronomy 5) don't quite seem to match the ones listed in Exodus 34!
Seems like there's a wee bit of a discrepancy there. I asked Magus about this in a discussion over in evo/cre but the discussion was ignominiously locked before he could get back to me on it. This was after he tried to tell us the Bible makes sense and that we can trust what Genesis says about history and science! |

In Exodus 34, God "writes on the stones the words that were on the first tablets, which Moses broke". These are the 10 Commandments from Ex 20. Compare Ex 34:1 to Ex 34:27. What does Moses write? The contents of Ex 34. Are these being referred to as the "10 Commandments"? No. The confusion comes about by two things: (1) This is the first time the words "10 Commandments" are actually used in the Bible. (2) The use of pronoun "he" in Ex 34:28 is ambiguous - it could refer to Moses or God. If it refers to Moses, it doesn't make much sense in context. If it refers to God, it matches the context perfectly. As there was no capitalisation of proper names or titles in Hebrew, we can only know which subject it refers to from the context. (The NKJV capitalises the "He" to indicate God wrote on the stones). Why then does God ask Moses to write the words in Ex 34? Because it is the RE-ESTABLISHMENT of the covenant. The covenant had about 600 laws, which Moses wrote in the Book of the Covenant "according to God's words" (compare Ex 24:4 & Ex 24:8 to Ex 34:27). The commandments in Ex 34 are sampled from the earlier commandments (for example: compare Ex 34:18 commandments with Ex 23:15), symbolising the re-establishment of the covenant. So no discrepency, I'm afraid. |
