Revelations Question - help needed
I was "discussing" some things with a fellow worker at break, and found out that he is a firm "revelations" believer. We didn't discuss it much, but in thinking of further discussions, I wanted to find out about the comparisons between Revelations and another book in the Bible. I remember watching a tv show (on history channel or something like it) that compared the Book of Revelations with another book that contained very similar images, enough to make it look like a case of plagerism (at least in some parts) - the books were supposedly both written during similar periods of repression (IIRC). While I can do a search of the books and try to find and compare them myself, I figured I'd ask and see if any such comparison has been done before.
Has anybody heard of such a thing or have any information on it? |

I have doubts whether plagiarism is a useful way of looking at this type of intertextuality, in which the author probably wanted his readers to pick up the allusions and say 'Ah now I see what Daniel really means.' Andrew Criddle |

Also
Essene Book of Revelation Crazy similarities. Don't know which book came first but the Essene's seems more coharent. But the book in the bible they were probably talking about like Andrew said is Daniel. |

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, plagarism may have been a bit strong, but when it looks like someone lifted whole sections of the earlier book and reused them, what else can you call it? At least, that's what I got from the show - that may change once I get a chance to compare them myself.
