The Atheist's Toolbox on the Bible
Guys,
I would appreciate your input. My friends and I are developing a new site which contains a series of rebuttals against common statements or questions related to the Bible, Atheism and Evolution amongst others. Essentially it's a site full of resources or a toolbox if you will for laymen. Here is the link to the section about the Bible: http://www.atheisttoolbox.com/fcbible.htm And the general site can be found at www.atheisttoolbox.com. Any suggestions regarding improvements or other popular questions/claims would really be appreciated. Regards, Ruhan van Vuuren |

Well, if it's a developing site, then I'd kind of expect Christianity to be the first priority. I'd second the notion of adding in information on other religions, even if altogether they only amounted to half of what you have on Christianity.
Stuff on skepticism and science would be good too. |

Given that christianity is a living faith, constantly regenerating and refreshingly expressing itself in the individual christian, and being based on deep spiritual convictions, you may need to consider specifically if you can expect to defeat it using rote arguments. An alternative - to show, by example or otherwise, that the life of the atheist is more exciting, fulfilling and rewarding on as many levels as possible than that of the christian.

It's rote arguments that we are countering--the same old unchanging goofy chestnuts that Christians throw around without critical examination. A tired collection of "rote arguments" is all that artificially props up Christianity. It is literally by rote that its practitioners trot out cherry-picked bible verses out of habit, believing that they're actually true, and without fully understanding or even evaluating why they aren't. All de-bunking sites like this one are trying to do is throw some hard light on these old fables to illustrate that they are no better than any of the other old fables that we've already consigned to history's dustbin; Yahweh is living on borrowed time until he can join Ra, Odin, and Zeus. I think it genuinely bugs Christians that atheists can happily go about their daily lives while displaying the same level of "morality" as their Christian neighbors, but we aren't the ones making the original claim that OUR way is the only way to be happy. We're simply telling you, "you're dreaming (as usual) if you think YOUR way is." |

Thank you for some of the comments guys. I was looking for some comments on our rebuttals or other common claims that could be added.
We already have a detailed are covering evolution and science. Topics such as Reason and science vs faith are already covered. In regards to other religions, I completely and utterly concur that there is a need for that and I am busy developing a similar section on the Qur'an. There is also a general section on Religions in general which covers comparative religions. Regards, Ruhan van Vuuren |
