Default was Pachomius (292-348 CE) "made christian" by Jerome?

Pachomius began to receive disciples in 324 and their number increased so rapidly that he had to make a foundation at Phbow 329. We know this with some degree of certainty via multiple attestations of a variety of sources.

WIKI currently starts like this:
Quote:
Saint Pachomius (ca. 292-348), also known as Abba Pachomius and Pakhom in Arabic الأنبا باخوميوس, is generally recognized as the founder of Christian cenobitic monasticism. His saint day is celebrated on 9 May.

Pachomius is often described as a christian. But was Pachomius in historical fact a christian desert ascetic, or was he the first to establish a refuge in the deserts, at far and remote places like Nag Hammadi, away from the destruction of long standing and well revered (pagan) temples in and near Egypt by Constantine?

Was Pachomius actually in historical truth a christian? Or was he a pagan made christian by Jerome et al, who vetted and translated the histories at the end of the fourth century from the coptic.

Best wishes,

Pete
