Several Sabbaths in a week?
OK, this is a new one for me. On another message board, a Christian claims that there were two sabbaths during holy week and thus Jesus was crucified not on Friday but on a Thursday (the other sabbath for that week), and thus did in fact spend three nights in the grave and rose on the third day.
This is the first I've heard of this argument and wondered if any of the great experts around here knew about it and if there is any truth to it. TIA! SLD |

On another forum that I frequent, one of the regulars is a very smart Jew who has done graduate work in theology and New Testament studies. I'll ask her and report back. |

Some people try to argue that the traditional date is wrong. Here is an example. The Chronology of Christ's Crucifixion & Resurrection Others try to argue that there has been confusion about this from as early as around 200 AD. Centuries-Old Documents Show Evidence for a Wednesday Crucifixion |

There was recent a thread about the "high sabbath" http://www.iidb.org/vbb/showthread.p...t=high+sabbath High Sabbath - Jesus died on a Wednesday This is a fundamental chronology question, one key verse being .. John 19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Exegesis may vary, but there is no doubt discussing the two sabbaths in the week is in the ballpark . Shalom, Steven |
