I've been posting at Yahoo!Answers for a few weeks in the hope that I can educate some of the Christians there about their Bible and the history of their religion. I don't know if I, and the other non-believers there, have made any difference or not, but it sure has been fun seeing the rude, desperate responses to our questions and answers! Once I became an avowed atheist, having been a devout Christian, I was aware that the only evidence the hard-core fundies might respond to would be the Bible and it's errors, immorality and absurdity. I have had some success in the last 20 years in getting people to think about their religion, though I don't know if those seeds have ever sprouted into deconversion. I can only hope, and keep spreading manure!

I strongly agree that using The Bible is very important in deconverting people. However, every person is different. The Bible uses a great deal of psychological manipulation, and simply pointing out internal contradictions and Biblical atrocities doesn't have a great deal of impact.

In addition to pointing out Biblical atrocities and internal contradictions, it is useful to point out the psychological manipulation tactics used by The Bible.

The Mind of The Bible Believer by Edmund Cohen does an amazing job analyzing the Christian Psyche. Understanding these psychological techniques is useful in figuring out why it is that a Christian refuses to acknowledge reason. There's A LOT of nontrivial information in this book.

Because they are dangerous to the public. Even the ones who don't vote let Genesis dictate the science curriculum and Leviticus inform the law shelter and encourage those who do.

Using the Bible to deconvert Christians

I don't know if anyone has started a thread like this before, but here goes:

I am a firm believer in using the Bible to deconvert Christians. It is my feeling that if all Christians actually READ the Bible (and not just the parts they get spoon fed on Sunday morning), many of them would either chuck Christianity completely or at least allow a germ of doubt to enter their consciousness'. Since BC&H is filled with people who HAVE read the 'Good Book', I think a survey is in order to help settle the question:
Yes. It is a good idea. However I don't like it because I'm no interested in deconverting anyone.

If christians deconvert,... Do you think this world would be a better place to live in?..If so, count me in.

Some Xtians are good persons..(blind but good). Besides, some People just feel desoriented whithout a religion.
