Default it is a sin to be rich it is a sin to be poor

I remember hearing a passage of the Bible discussed and interpreted concerning this phrase from a pastor and later the phrase being quoted as a biblical line by someone in passing. Is anyone aware of a passage in the Bible that states this? I haven't been able to find it doing searches online. Thanks.

You will need to be a bit more specific here. Are you talking about a single quote? Or two separate ones?

There is the famous, "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter heaven," or some such.

Poor people are generally not discriminated against in the bible. The closest I can think of is the talents parable, but even that doesn't really pertain to wealth and poverty.

All I remember is the exact phrase "it is a sin to be rich it is a sin to be poor." It may have been one "it is a sin to be rich" followed by something and then "it is a sin to be poor" followed by something. The way the pastor explained it, it is a sin to be rich because if you are rich you aren't giving enough to charity, and it is a sin to be poor because if you are poor it means you aren't working.

"Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God."
Lk 6:20

The pastor in question obviously doesn't know Jesus' teachings very well.

The parable of the talents (Mt 25:14-30) could be seen as providing a justification for wealth acquisition. While its meaning is actually about sharing one's spiritual insights, it is nevertheless instructive that accumulation of material wealth is compared here to active spirituality.
