Sounds more gnostic that way, for sure.

Here is some guy, teaching the teachers that they don't know what he knows, but that they could learn.... :devil3:

It was an interesting exercise, and I found it easy to remove "Jesus Christ" from it, though I had to assign comments about "the Son" to someone. John the Baptist was the obvious candidate. In fact, the whole thing hung together very well. References to "the light" were a recurring theme - it makes me wonder if it has greater significance beyond the text.
I am impressed .... it does highlight something I have wondered about ...
In several places the bible mentions disciples of John The Baptist, I have always wondered if perhaps there was a competing sect / oral tradition. It seems (IMO) that the Gospels (especially John) offer reactions to this different message ... unfortunately it seems this is in the realm of speculation ... with no basis in history ...

NB: Please do not reproduce the entire contents of a post you are responding to without good cause. Generally this would include responding point by point to the previous post. You can simply quote the first line or so of the post with an indication that the balance of it has been omitted for one line responses or questions. Otherwise it just clutters up the forum.

Thanks,
