This is a GRAIN offering. Leviticus 7 lays down the law on Guilt Offerings so yes rice or wheat is ok provided it's not leavened or mixed with oil and i would also add not mixed with honey.
Also nothing is forced of the wife, just read Numbers 30:3-16 and know that her soul is bound when she makes the vow. You can joke and mock the ritual all you want but that doesn't make it false. I have witnessed and performed the ritual first hand and it works - you can't take that away from Godly people. Quote:
