One of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. The lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, 3 has triumphed, enabling him to open the scroll with its seven seals." Revelation 5:5

"To the victor, who keeps to my ways until the end, I will give authority over the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. Like clay vessels will they be smashed, just as I received authority from my Father. And to him I will give the morning star. Whoever has ears ought to hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 2:26-29

Step back and look at the entire painting.

Oh ok... see over there in that part of the painting, there is like this boat full of animals and there's all this water, and this guy Noah and his family is all thats left of humankind.

So whats to believe in any of the painting when it includes that bit of childish nonsense as just as real as all the rest?

So, let me get this straight. They understood the consequences, and they also knew what God meant by saying do not eat from the tree, but they didn't understand right vs. wrong?

hmm? :constern01:
If they understood right from wrong already then why bother having to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? According to you they already knew it was evil to disobey God?

If they were already immortal before eating of the Tree of Knowledge then why would God run them out of the garden before they ate of the Tree of Life?

The serpent never lied to Adam & Eve. The serpent said they would gain knowledge of good and evil-which they did; the serpent said that the day they eat the fruit they would not die-and they did not die that day.

Who was the liar in this story?

The Bible appears to condone genocide. Christians have a hard time reconciling it with normal human behavior.

Satan doesn't exist, and neither did the Garden of Eden, and the original myth preceding the invention of Satan.

The Bible is a compendium of ancient myth, fake history, pious theology, and well meaning advice. It is much too simplistic to call it a lie.

Because they didn't understand good and evil. Satan wanted to show them the darkside of life by introducing sin and evil.

Life after death. Adam & Eve will not receive an eternal gift of life.

That's right, The Serpent said they would gain knowledge of "Good vs. Evil", which some of your skeptical buddies seem to think they already had knowledge of Good and evil. But anyway, No one ever said they would die on the same day they ate the fruit.

This is where atheists get confused.

God said on that day you eat from the tree, you shall surely die.

God is saying; the day you eat from that tree, you have signed your death certificate.

Atheists seem to think the bible says Adam will die on the same exact day he eats from the tree. That is not the case.

So far, it's not Satan nor God.. it's the atheists who are <wrong> at this point.

Yes, that's what I meant by saying that. I know atheists debate the "character of God" as to God.

Not really, because I'm a Christian and I have no problem with YHWH destroying an entire city or country if they are killing their own children for a wooden idol.

No, that verse means God is not going to fight their every battle. Meaning the Jews.

No, god hates shrimp.
And he also says Pigs are unclean and do not eat pork.

Stereotyping an entire religion is not a good formal debate.

The Garden of Eden exists in Modern day Iraq. Learn something today.. listen to me.

I would rather study from a Jewish scholar that can understand the Aramaic/Hebrew language Jesus Christ spoke. Instead of reading something that could possibly have translation errors within it. What good is a book if you don't research it? God wants you to earn your reward in Heaven. That's why Christians say Study the bible!

That's what the story says. Take it up with the author if you agree it's idiotic. I suppose he might work in "but Adam and Eve didn't know god was trustworthy and the serpent wasn't, because they hadn't yet eaten of the fruit of the shrub of wisdom of who's a jerk and who isn't."

"artifacts of the bible" but nowhere ever any trace of the supposed world wide flood. Why are you avoiding dealing with that inconvenient truth?

All of this is very entertaining IBIH, but the fact is: If God is all powerful and all knowing then absolutely nothing happens that he did not set into motion. Thus the Rebellion of Satan and the Fall would actually have been decreed by a sovereign God. A&E's disobedience would have been predestined by God.

All of the evil and suffering which exists in the world is here because God wants it to be.

Of course, most Christians who are not fundamentalists consider the Genesis story to simply be an etiological myth.

I've only seen evidence that you are a believer. Rational thought does not appear to be a priority for you, based on your arguments and positions.

No, you just pretend it means something acceptable to your beliefs regardless of whether there is any basis for that "interpretation". Like I said, long on faith, short on thought.

Your effort to differentiate between knowledge of "good and evil" and knowledge of "right and wrong" is utterly without merit. According to the Bible, they could not possibly have known that it was "wrong" to disobey god.

Quote:
How were they "setup" to fail?
They did not have the ability to make an informed choice.

Quote:
No, the talking Snake actually condemned them to die. The Serpent knew they would introduce evil unto the world by disobeying God.
Quit making things up. The text says they would acquire understanding, it does not say eating the fruit would "introduce" evil into the world.

Quote:
If you obey the Serpent, then you will surely die.
No, they were going to die anyway unless they ate of the other magical tree that provided eternal life.

Quote:
How was the Serpent correct?
He was correct in telling them the fruit would not kill them and he was correct in telling them that it would provide knowledge of good and evil.

God lied and the snake told the truth.

Quote:
Adam and Eve did not receive eternal life and they died as a result of following the Beast.
The text makes it clear that they wouldn't receive eternal life unless they ate from the other tree. They died because they didn't eat from that tree and they weren't allowed to do so because they ate from the first.

Quit changing the story to fit your beliefs and deal honestly with the text as it stands.
