as well as the newly uncovered portrait of Paul in the catacomb of St. Tekla. I have been working on the Paul book since late 2008 when I signed a contract with Simon & Schuster. There was a time when I expected it might be out by Spring, 2010 but as I got deeper into my work I began to develop my ideas in directions I had not originally anticipated, so I have ended up taking most of 2010 to complete the manuscript. The book has been listed on Amazon now for over a year with the fetching title: Paul Untitled (or via: amazon.co.uk) and still no cover image. . . .

I don’t know of another book on Paul by a scholar in the field that is like this one, either in ideas, approach, or style. I did my Ph.D. dissertation on Paul at the University of Chicago (1982), directed by the incomparable Jonathan Z. Smith. It was published as a monograph in the Brown University Judaic Studies series in 1985 titled Things Unutterable (or via: amazon.co.uk)....

2009 is as "of late" as I could find:

The first scientific test on, what are believed to be, the remains of the Apostle Paul 'seems to confirm' that they do indeed belong to the Roman Catholic saint, the Pope said yesterday.

Pope Benedict said archaeologists recently unearthed and opened the white marble sarcophagus located under the Basilica of St. Paul's Outside the Walls in Rome, which for some 2,000 years has been believed to be the tomb of St. Paul.
The Pope said scientists had conducted carbon dating tests on bone fragments found inside the sarcophagus and confirmed that they date from the first or second century.

We commented on St Paul's bones back then. No one on this forum seemed impressed with the claim of authenticity. But what do we know?

You don't sign a deal with Simon and Shuster to write a book about Paul with knowing that you will HAVE TO cater to popular misconceptions. I think Tabor is a great guy. I respect a lot of his earlier work. I think it's the world that sucks. The difference between a prostitute and a scholar writing a book directed at morons is that the prostitute has no illusions about her job description.

I can't find any further information than "the Pope said". Was there never a report issued? nothing about a missing skull? Paul's skull, along with Simon Peter's, is supposed to be in St. John Lateran Cathedral.
