"Misquoting Jesus"
There was a rather good interview on NPR's The Diane Rehm Show today with Bart Ehrman (Chairman of Religious Studies, UNC) about his new book entitled "Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why". You can listen to it here if you didn't catch it live. A couple of his responses to callers were priceless. I thought the regular inhabitants of this forum might enjoy listening to it.

I'm actually listening to that as we speak.
I bought his "Misquoting Jesus" the other day and finished it in a day and a half. Definitely a very good read and interesting. For a more in depth look at his work though, I believe his earlier book is much more comprehensive. It's called "The Orthodox Corruption of Scripture: The Effect of Early Christological Controversies on the Text of the New Testament". Nonetheless "Misquoting Jesus" is a great read for someone not very familiar with the problems surrounding the transmission of manuscripts. |

That's weird, it worked for me.
It was interesting to hear Ehrman's response when a caller asked, "Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ," since I never knew his religious affiliation. Ehrman responded after a quick explanation: "I'm now a happy agnostic." Part of me was hoping to hear him say "Yes", simply so that Christians listening would take him more seriously, who unfortunately will probably now shrug him off as wrong. |
