Who's that guy?
Jesus was single.
He had no children. Jesus was a virgin. He was gay He hung out with whores He had long straight light brown hair. He was a short fat Jew with a yarmulke, black curly hair and a thick black beard. He never wore a hat. His disciples never wore hats Mary Magdalen was a whore. Jesus was a pacifist. He was a man of war. Mariam was his wife and the mother of his children He was popular with the people. He was hated by the people. He was careful to always follow the law of Moses. He superceded and nullified the law of Moses. He was a Jew He was a rabbi He was illiterate He was a man He is God Jesus was God in the flesh (from a Harry Partch song). He had a little neatly trimmed pointy beard. He chose death He feared death He was King of Israel. His Kingdom is not of this Earth He was of the root of Jesse His father was Joseph His father was Pantera His father was God He was the Messiah He loved his enemies He was the son of man He was a Black man with a big afro. |

I respectfully disagree.
I have tried to list the various faces of Jesus that have been generated by the NT and the Art /Culture it inspired. I invite others to add to this list to help make it more comprehensive. |

Boomeister-
"How about -- he was a made up character and can be whatever anybody wants him to be ?" Thank you It has been added to the list. Jeremy Pallant- "How about, this doesn't really belong in BC&H?" Thank you But I don't think that there is a place on the list for this one. Nice try though. Does any one else have more faces to add? I am trying to make this list truly comprehensive. |

Ronin-"What qualification or verification should be required from the NT or "Art/Culture" to validate the significance of a submission?"
Any image imagined or believed by anyone who thinks about Jesus has significance and belongs on this list. "Also, how does "Mary Magdalen was a whore." fit into this comprehensive list?" Point taken here is the list purged of confusing non-Jesus references. Jesus was a made up character and can be whatever anybody wants him to be.-Boomeister Jesus was single. He had no children. Why the focus on Jesus? The imagination is limitless, so what is the significance of the list? When will you know when the list is complete? Can it ever be complete? |

How many can one human submit from the depths of their imagination?
Whether we believe in a HJ or a MJ we have all encountered many images of this guy. He has become the repository of all that some of us imagine of human virtue. He has become the repository of all that some of us imagine of human folly. But whether he existed or not so many layers of human imagination have been added to him as to render his image phantasmagoric. Why the focus on Jesus? So much has been invested in this construct that I think that it is important to take an inventory. The imagination is limitless, so what is the significance of the list? Call it a poem When will you know when the list is complete? How did Cezanne know when a painting was complete? Can it ever be complete? Can we enumerate Pi? |
