Deuteronomy 25:

If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

And what about the poor Uzzah who pushed the ark to keep it from falling, and was smitten because he wasn't a priest and yet touched a thing that belonged to God... (II Sam 6:6-7, I Chron 13:9-11)

The following two off-topic threads have been split from here:

Is the UK a Christian society? may be moved to GRD if no one objects

Moderation of racist language - not sure what to do with this.

PM me if you think something was moved or not moved in error.

Leave Roger's crack. Its always nice to see somebody rant and then shoot down their own rant this way.

I like the part where God issues the commandment for no graven images or likeness of any thing that is in heaven and then shortly thereafter commands the ark be built with cherubim made of gold. Uh?

If Jesus is God and God is Jesus (trinity) then is it not safe to assume you can substitute Jesus for all the OT references to God, Yahweh, Jehova, etc. All those vile passages seem ever so much more horrific when you realize that Jesus commanded men to slaughter little ones, rape women, stone unruly children to death, and kill women with bears.

Mighty difficult to square congruency in your mind when put into that perspective. For me anyway.

You would think that a just god would have punished the high priest for not transporting the arc the way god commanded but the high priest gets off scott free

Politics is a bit outside the scope of this forum, as is the question of morality without god. Please stick to the subject matter. Thanks.

Please confine any future posts in this thread to the stated subject. If you wish to comment on why searching for Bible atrocities is NOT a good idea, or comment on comparative morals, please locate the separate thread for those comments.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I don't remember where it is but I would say one of the worst passages is the one where Elijah was made fun of by some kids and God sent a bear to rip them to shreds. What was it, 40 of them?
I mean, what is the moral of that story? Don't mess with God's prophets? It is better to kill 40 kids than to tell someone the obvious, that he is bald?
The bible is a mixed bag of good and bad. I am not one to say if it is mostly bad or mostly good. But I will say that the bad is really bad and I don't understand to this day why I was not offended by these things when I was a Christian. As I said, I guess I read everything as a metaphor. Everything.
