Biblical Plagiarism
Can anyone give me some specific examples of stories in the Old Testament that were based on or stolen from other myths/legends?

Thanks marduck
I've also heard that the 10 Commandments are based on the Code of Hammurabi(sp?) Anyone know if that's true? |

Psalm 104 seems strongly influence by the Hymn to the Aten.

Offa snipping;
Aton made the Nile in Egypt and rain, like a heavenly Nile, in foreign countries. He has a million forms according to the time of day and from where he is seen; yet he is always the same. . ." The only person who knows and comprehends the god fully is said to be Akhenaton, together with his wife, Nefertiti. The hymn to the Aton has been compared in imagery to Psalm 104 ("Bless the Lord, O my soul"). Hey, I was curious so I started searching. Thank-you Apikorus; Offa |

The best book that I have seen on the subject of Biblical plagiarism is Gerald A. Larue's <a href="http://shopping.yahoo.com/shop?d=b&id=2892769&cf=1&clink=dmpr-hm/rp" target="_blank">Ancient Myth and Modern Life</a>. Larue has made a life-long study of ancient sources of Biblical mythology. I can't recommend him too highly.

The 10C's are the beginning of a big law code; some of it is apparently an imitation of Mesopotamian law codes like Hammurabi's.

Marduck forgot to include how Moses being sent in the basket was taken from the Sumerian king Sargon.

I also forgot to mention that the 10 C's are very similar to the 24 Confessions to Osiris from the Pyramid Text, 2500 BC. Code of Hamurabi is around 1750 BC.
Also the story of the bad god starting a war with the good god over control of the Earth is from Sumer also, 'The Epic of Zu' |

egads! Marduck may have made a mistake!
The Tower of Babel- Sumer 'Enmakar and the Gods of Aratta' This may be the 'Job' story. I'm not 100% certain. |
