Talking Calvin vs. Copernicus

In the process of resurrecting the "Quote of the Minute" feature, one of the first quotes that popped up was this gem:
Quote:
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"Who will venture to place the authority of Copernicus above that of the Holy Spirit?" [John Calvin, citing Ps. 93:1 in his Commentary on Genesis] </font>
I guess that the Holy Spirit lost this one in extra innings.

"To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin." –Cardinal Bellarmine (vs Galileo)

When the trumpet sounds, you and the other born-again Christians in that automobile will be instantly caught away, you'll disappear, leaving behind your clothing and physical things that cannot inherit eternal life. That unsaved person or persons in the automobile will suddenly be startled to find that the car is moving along without a driver, and suddenly somewhere crashes. I'm impressed by the Martin Luther quotes. I'd know about the anti-semitism, but hadn't been aware of the fierce tirades against reason. It is particularly odd in light of the fact that the reformation was in many respects a logical argument against Catholicism.
