Post Who was Barabbas?

Were Jesus and Barabbas one and the same person? Check out The Mystery Of Barabbas

There is an annoying pop-up banner ad on the website. Just click on the arrow at the top right corner of the ad to get rid of it

I haven't seen that movie. Yeah, Anthony Quinn would make a great Barabbas.
The idea that Jesus and Barabbas were the same person is one that I'd never heard before, and I wanted to see what you guys thought of it. Obviously, no one is taking it seriously. What a shame! If only it could be proved... it would be a major embarrassment to our xian friends

Barabbas A name for Theudas as the servant (Aramic bar) of Jonathan Annas, who could be called Abba, the father.

"ISBN 0-06-067782-1", p.386

The idea that Jesus and Barabbas could be the same person has actually been around for some time. I don't recall the details, but it seems that in one of the ancient manuscripts Barabbas is called "Jesus Barabbas" -- which can be interpreted as "Jesus, Son of the Father."

Along those lines, I would recommend Robert Eisenmen's James, the Brother of Jesus. Although it doesn't deal specifically with Barabbas, he does offer some very intriguing ideas about James and the earliest followers of Jesus/Yeshua.

Interesting article. It proves once again that Jesus is a Rorschach test - you read into him what's inside your own psyche. Pacifist, hippie, rebel freedom fighter, whatever.

But this story makes as much sense as any.

And Anthony Quinn was also Zorba the Greek. I'm sure that you could make something out of that.

According to 'The Hiram Key' Jesus Barabbas was James (Jesus's Brother) the other pillar.

According to another theory Barabbas was Jesus's Son.

I quite like the second theory but no doubt Nomad will step in and call me names as is usual.

It's quite an honor to be insulted by Nomad. But I doubt that he will show up here, since he's going to be debating Earl Doherty.
