You might get some information on biblical nonsense from reading various links in the Philosophy section on www.bobkwebsite.com.
Basic Philosophy: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/basicphilosophy.html The Source of Causality: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/sourceofcausality.html Standards for the Analysis, Evaluation and Judgment of Holy Books: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/stndrdsholybks.html Standards for the Analysis, Evaluation and Judgement of Gods: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/stndrdsgods.html Contradictions in the Christian Bible: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/biblclcntrdctns.html The Bel (Baal) Myth Parallels to the Jesus Myth: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/belmythvjesusmyth.html The Judeo-Christian, Chaldean and Hindu Flood Myths: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/floodmyths.html The Hindu Krishna and Christian Jesus Myth Parallels: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/krishnajesusmyths.html Biblical Fictions: http://www.bobkwebsite.com/biblicalfictions.html These links can get you started on locating and studying the words that are considered to be irrational and that, therefore, can be used to discredit the Bible. How to discredit the Bible all depends on what you mean by discrediting.
Whilst it is ludicrous to conclude there is nothing describing any factual occurences whatsoever in the entirity of the Bible, it is not ludicrous to conclude that every word in the Bible came from the very lips of an omnipotent being. I think many of the arguments regarding Bible discreditation comes down to a different understanding of what exactly is being discredited by either side. For instance, how many on this thread truly believe that every word in the Bible is God's? |

Whoops, I made a mistake in my post, where I said:
'it is not ludicrous to conclude that every word in the Bible came from the very lips of an omnipotent being.' the 3rd word 'not' shouldn't be there. I do not believe any intelligent being of any sort, except for humans, had anything to do with the Bible. |

But in my own experience what you have just said is completely and utterly wrong. It isn't even a little bit true, it hasn't even come close to happening. I can't really understand why you even think it might happen: Why on earth would anyone belief something because it would make them feel happier if it is true??? I'm sure even the dimmest person in the world realises that the truth of an idea is completely independent of the happiness it would cause. I find in interesting that quite a lot of atheists accuse theist of this... wishful thinking (I suppose that's the best name for it). But frankly I have never noticed it in my life and have never noticed it in any other Christians I know. |

Tercel, are you familiar with Pascal's Wager? It's widely regarded by apologists as a valid basis of faith. You explain very nicely why the argument is invalid, but that doesn't mean it isn't popular. And I've known an awful lot of Christians for whom the comfort aspect of the creed was its most attractive feature.
BTW, I really was hoping for an answer to my earlier question. [This message has been edited by JubalH (edited June 04, 2001).] |
