Question about the Devil
I need help. Does anybody know where the story of the rebellion of Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels comes from? It's not in the bible as far as I can tell. Is it a myth that developed after the canon?

As far as I know the only place in the canon in which it appears is the Revelation of John. See Rev. 12:7. But then again, it doesn't mention "1/3."
The tradition probably developed from Jewish pseudepigrapha, which has an interest in fallen angels, etc. |

Yes, mostly the Book of Enoch, which I've heard, borrows heavily from Zorastrian thinking. |

They sure use a lot from Enoch, for example: Jude 14-16 (God will judge) quotes 1Enoch 1:9 Why did it miss the canon boat?

If memory serves, I think it was 'in' for awhile, then taken out, maybe those stories of 450 foot tall giants were even too much of a stretch for people in 100 B.C.E. The Essene crew at Qumran liked it though. There is also a cool book from the Dead Sea Scrolls called 'The Book of the Giants' only fragments remain, lot's of strange tales of the Nephilim (Giants) having sex with all kinds of animals. |

Let's see, the forum title is A question about the devil and I am writing about 'The Book of the Giants'! My apologies, however, my curiosity is piqued. I am a firm believer that the Animals on Noah's ark were human and that the Hebrews had a caste system using animal names. In reading The Book of Jubilees I realized that the Cattle were slaves and the women were used for procreation and since they were also Animals it was called husbandry. Kind of like the Hebrews intended to use Gentiles in their husbandry thus their private parts were called genitalia. Josephus writes this; The Works of Josephus, p.51 ANT 01-329 And when he had put his company in this order, he sent some of them to carry presents to his brother. The presents were made up of cattle, and a great number of four-footed beasts, of many kinds, such as would be very acceptable to those that received them, on account of their rarity. Why would Josephus make a distinction between "cattle" and "four-footed beasts"? Is he saying that cattle are "two footed"? I think so. I believe the "fallen angels" were the "Giants" and the women they took were classified as cattle. Thanks, offa |

There is also a 'Book of Noah' & a 'Book of Adam' floating around. You can usually read these on the web, you don't have to buy them.
There is a passage in Genesis (or is it the Epic of Gilgamesh) that says 'he took the SEED of every animal onto the ark) that would take up much less room. God: "I'll wait over here while my assistant Noah jerks off a Tiger" Giants=Neandertals?? back to the Devil, there is an old Sumerian story called 'The Epic of Zu' which tells of one of the bad Gods (a son of one of the good gods BTW) who starts a war among the gods by stealing the Me's (pronounced mays) or the 'book of destinies' to try and make himself the big cheese, he looses of course.
