Default Resource: Theological Commons

Stephen Carlson passed this around:

http://commons.ptsem.edu/

over 70,000 works, including 26,000 works from the Princeton theological seminary. All available online. Have at it!

Seems to be a valuable resource, especially if a person has to drive to a library or resources are limited.

All it does is link to archive.org, which can be directly (and compound) searched a bit more effectively.

The search function at the Theological Commons is crude. I searched for "Charles" as a "name" (looking for R H Charles) but it is not too long before I realizes that it is not really indexed on last names but searches for words in the name field, forcing one to search ahead arbitrarily until you light upon it. Stoopid!

Also, you also better like reading all 211 issues of The Annals of the Queen's Royal Fuddy Duddy Society of the Tea Room conducted at the Palace of Wales and like literature.

Your problem, DCH,
Is that you forgot to click the bullet for "Author" 3 lines down from the Search field.
It also picks up first names, so enter "R. H. Charles" where you want to search someone whose last name is also a first name.

I have problems with program "features" (marketing department code for "software bug"), but not with searches. I figure that if I can rightly guess how the author's familiar name will be entered into the "author" field, I could have performed a compound search at archive.org (Author = Charles, Title = Apocrypha & Pseudepigrapha") etc. Try to search an online catalogue on Author = Charles, and you will get only last names Charles, because they ensure that the author info is always entered "last, first."

Faw!
