Default Cheeta the Chimp is 71

A chimp who a role in Tarzan movies in the 30s and 40s has turned 71 and is now officially oldest known chimp ever.

I was under the false impression that chimps could not live that long. I am now corrected. :-)

That's pretty amazing. I too, didn't realize such a life span was possible for chimps. Of course, it's unlikely that a life in the wild would last nearly so long.

I was actually under the impression that chimps did not live that long even if they did not die "prematurely" from predators, violence, infectious disease, etc.

Indeed I had in the past wondered why when "old age" occured was so different. Well if chimps are living to 71, there does not seem to be much to explain.
