Exclamation Help help help.

Dear all-

I, as usual, have awful luck. I have a paper on parables due next week (specifically, Luke 14:28-32 and Thomas 98) and most of the good books at the library (which people are only supposed to have for only ONE DAY) are overdue. People are hoarding them, and so I have no good sources. If anyone could direct me to some credible sources online I would sincerely appreciate it.

I suspect luck has nothing to do with it. How long have you had the assignment for?

Don't forget to mention 34, regarding salt losing its "savour" (which cannot happen).

The passages from Luke can be found in the Skeptics Annotated Bible, a King James Version, found here: http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com

It reads:
Quote:

14:24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

14:25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

14:29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

14:30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

14:31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

14:32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
The citation to Thomas, presumably the Gospel of Thomas, is more difficult because the Gospel of Thomas is not a part of the canonical Bible; it is a non-canonical Gnostic work. Here is a link to it: http://www.misericordia.edu/users/davies/thomas/Trans.htm

It says:
Quote:
98 Jesus said, The Father's kingdom is like a person who wanted to kill someone powerful. While still at home he drew his sword and thrust it into the wall to find out whether his hand would go in. Then he killed the powerful one.

Since Jekyll is at work right now (currently 1:16AM CST) I'll jump in and answer for her. She's had the assignment for about a month now. The topic was given her by the teacher. The teacher has ordered references for the entire class to share and naturally everyone is hoarding them past their 48 hour maximum timeperiod - hence the problem.

Unfortunately the teacher wants 3 different analysations of the parable from 3 different sources (credible sources). So far we've only been able to find THEIST sources which tell us the same thing, over and over again.

Hopefully this is a different theist perspective:
