The only people here most likely to say that beastiality is immoral would be xians.

Apart from them I think most would not find it in any way moral or immoral. Repulsive yes, moral or immoral no.

Cogito:

Beastiality is universally damned as utterly deprave sexual activity that the human being is capable of. Next to sodomy, it ranks in the deepest pit of human moral evil.

Why?

The ancient fear of feces, race extinction and physical hygiene. To love one's pet, even to sleep in bed with one's pet is not conscious sexual erotic passion for the pet. It is an expression of love and affection, not erotic burning desire! Sexual activity with bulls, monkeys and large dogs were encouraged in some societies for fertility cults---to aid the fecundity of the gods' 'grace' or bestowance on agricultural soil. Just as the Hebrews had male temple prostitutes (hierodule or qodeshim) that they would anally penetrate to teach the rain god how to ejaculate rain from the sky, so various isolated acts of beastiality are recorded in our ancient texts.

Modern health codes and virulent pathogens carried in animals' feces, precludes the modern practice. Inter-species sex is generally not a good idea; it leads to mental madness. It makes the human too aware, and induces over-exposure!

Is there some other kind of madness?

QueenofSwords:

Yes, there are 337 different sorts of madness. They are united by the common denominator that it occurs in the head or brain. Some are induce by drug toxicity. Some triggered by old age. Some possess organic causes (too much lead in the brain). Some induce by over-production of nitrogen in the brain. Some genetic. Some neurotransmitter mal-functionings (dopamine, GABA, serotonin, etc.)!

Lord Malin

P.S. I use 'mental' madness to detail madness induced by over-information, such as what Governor Festus accused St. Paul of at his Roman hearing, "Paul, you have read so many scrolls, your mind is mad."

Have you ever heard of the DSM-IV?

Communication between partners doesn't neccessarily have to be verbal.

Well, there's usually a difference between how you treat your mate and how you treat your food.

I've also seen no evidence that sexual use of animals causes them significant distress and would thus constitute actual cruelty. However, (probably not surprisingly) I have not investigated the this aspect of the issue in any detail.
I guess you misunderstood me. I didn't mean just having sex with an animal as a one time deal. What I meant was more like building a close relationship with the member of another species that might involve sexual passion. I guess I should've said zoophilia instead.

Malin:
It seems the only convincing argument you made was that it's unhygenic. Fair enough. But that has nothing to do with why it is "the deepest pit of human moral evil," unless you equate morality to cleanliness.
Hmmm??

To all of you who are wondering why I brought this up, I'll just clarify that I'm not a zoophilic. I've recently met someone who was though. He's perfectly nice and intelligent, but runs into a lot of hostility with his local fundy christians, that's all.

Just wondering exactly those health codes say, if you even know. Also, why would zoophilia necessarily involve animal feces any more than any interaction with a pet? Even if it did, why not just use a barrier method?

Also, sodomy ranks in the the deepest pit of human moral evil? I can't say that's been my experience.

Tronvillain and Cogito:

I quote the ancient anthropological-sociological sense-datum on bestiality! I did not say if I agreed with it. I suspect it requires a serious disorientation in personality and sexual adjustment to desire beastiality [sex with animals]!

The moral charge against sodomy is the same. You enjoy the sex well, but you are degrading your sex partner to the status of an object by physical domination. The degraded human being might enjoy your servicing at the present moment (providing you are supporting them well) of him/her, but they will eventually mature and develolpment counter-domination feelings towards their victims.

The consensus of moral philosophers is that these are not stable relationships! If you desire domination of others, live for the moment and are extremely self-centered and egoistic/egotistical---by all means fornicate with dogs, bulls and chimpanzees! Bestiality implies sexual penetration of an animal's orifice. Masturbation does not count, nor inter-crual sex!

Lord Malin

P.S. The decadent French nobility experimented with bestiality for a awhile during the Eighteenth Century. Marquis de Sade captures their fine moral decadence.

Where did you get this information? Once again, have you ever heard of the DSM-IV? It occurs in the head or brain? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Mad Kally:

Has not everyone heard, read and digested mentally the fourth edition of DSM-IV?

It is what renders psychiatrists competent to dispense pills or impose electric shocks on their patients.

Madness can be induced by mal-nutrition, drug abuse and excessive alcoholism also.

Lord Malin

P.S. Are you bi-polar? I have been cursed with an exceptionally powerful and healthy brain!
