Since God created the earth, then we should be able to look at His creation, and determine it's age. After all, if God is truth, and He created the world, then the world will truthfully tell it's age when we examine it. Scientists examining the earth say that it is billions of years old, therefore that must be the truth...after all, God cannot lie.

Not only is the earth 4.5 billion years old... but the creation story in the book of Genesis is completely accurate. Answers In Creation is here to emphatically say, "You can be a Christian, and believe in an old earth."
This is an interesting site arguing against YECs.

How do they know? After all, god is omnipotent = he can do what he likes.

And he did...

Gen 2:17
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Since Adam and Eve did NOT die on that day, then this can be considered a lie.

Yeah, sakrilege, you just have to interpret it correctly. You see, days back then were a thousand years long.

Oh no, wait, I mean that . . . when God said "day" he meant "era."

No, hang on, it's actually that . . . Adam and Eve DID die that very day -- just in a spiritual sense, not a physical sense.

Oh wait, it's actually . . . oh, drat.

Magus, what was the excuse this week? I just can't remember.

As an aside, do you want to debate the concordance of multiple radiometric dating methods with independent checks like the observed rate of seafloor spreading and plate movements, Magus?

Thanks for clearing that up, Magus55. It makes sense now.

I thought the idea was that our heroes adam and eve were going to be immortal in the garden, and only became mortal after eating the thingy off the plant.

So god can't lie, but he can play clever little jokes.

...for varying definitions of "completely" and "accurate" such as "didn't archeology find a rock somewhere where there was supposed to be a temple?" and "Well, we still believe it."
