Re: Smith and Chasing Amy.
Just watch An Evening With Kevin Smith. He explains it pretty well.

And anyway, its just a movie.

Precisely.

The question of the role genetic disposition and environmental influence plays in forming our sexual orientation is a perfectly legitimate line of scientific and sociological enquiry but it does not have any bearing on the justification for certain types of sexual behaviour.

If you're not prepared to defend sexual behaviour purely on the basis of a person's right to choose then you're no different to the religious bigot - you just differ on what can practically done about it.

From Frontline. There is quite a lot on the web on the subject, but unfortunately the vast majority of the sites seem to have an axe to grind - either gay activists or gay-bashers - and it's tough to find many that you can be sure are dispassionate. But the numbers above speak mighty strongly for at least partly biological roots of sexual preference.
I have heard this info used by the fundies to say that it cannot be purely genetic since twins should either be both gay or both hetero. They seem to ignore that an identical twin is MUCH more likely to be gay if the other twin is gay.

But the same correlations also apply to left-handers and no one seems to think that those people "choose" to be lefties! (I think both are a combo of genetics/in utero developments and its basically all set by the time your born)

Here's a comparison chart:
http://members.aol.com/gaygene/pages/traittab.htm

Shadow---As for the homophobes- find one whose a lefty and ask him/her "Why aren't you right handed like everyone else? When did you choose to be a leftie? Why didn't you try to use your right hand like 90% of us "normal people" do? Surely you could change if you really wanted!!"
When they try to explain that they are just born like that, you've got em thinking. You don't even need to mention sexuality at all. Just mention that its hard for you to believe that left-handers are born with such a condition, and you can't imagine it ever being natural to write with the opposite hand! It just cannot be natural!

If you're in a special mood, suggest therapy or demon extraction.
