Talking "I'm not religious, I'm Christian!"

You know how so many Christiand nowadays feed us this "We don't like religion, that's why we're Christian" line? It's always intrigued me how such a phenomena can start. You have hte whole "It's not a religion, it's a relationship" catch-phrase, and you have fundies using it to differentiate Christianity from "some other" system of thought that says religion is the way to heaven, not Jebus (they're talking about Catholicism).

It's also an excellent example of the type of double-think that cults can force on their members, they take something that obviously is a religion and say it's not. And many of these people would prbably say that evolution, science, or even atheism are all religions!

Then, on the other hand, you have this statistic I keep hearing about, used to support the political importance of nonbelievers. It's the statistic that 15% of American's say that they're not religious.

I thought for a second about this, and said to myself, "Wouldn't it be ironic if..."

Well, I'm sure you can fill in the rest.

I have the same type of relationship with Elizabeth Hurley. I send her flowers every week and a marriage proposal once a month. She's just so busy, she hasn't had time to get back to me with her "yes" answer yet....

Ugh, that lines bugs me. I posted on an xian board for awhile, and recently went back. I finally got a few of them to concede that xianity is indeed a religion, and that religion is not necessarily a bad thing. Then they went around to say that all the other religions have man trying to go up to God, and xianity is the only religion where God comes down to man. Does it ever end? Now they're all reciting that. It really reminds me of a school of fish in the ocean. When you finally get one to move, the rest of them do the exact same thing. It's annoying!!

Sheep they aren't. Minnows they are.

The explanation I've heard is that Christianity is not a religion because it is the Truth.
Yeah, right.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Jame 1:27 La religion pure et sans tache, devant Dieu notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.

I usually hear that not-religious-but-christian line from individuals who don't want me to think they're brainwashed... They throw it out at the beginning of the religion conversation as if somehow, I'll accpet their views more easily if they call themselves christian without affiliating with a specific religion. Well, I'll accpet that they can have those views, but I'll also accept the fact that they are just as brainwashed as their "religious" counterparts.

1 John 4:4:1

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

1 Joh 4:4:1

Bien-aimés, n'ajoutez pas foi à tout esprit; mais éprouvez les esprits, pour savoir s'ils sont de Dieu, car plusieurs faux prophètes sont venus dans le monde. 2 Reconnaissez à ceci l'Esprit de Dieu: tout esprit qui confesse Jésus-Christ venu en chair est de Dieu;

And after they get done claiming their religion is not actually a religion, but a relationship, they will then go on to claim that evolution is a religion.

Sure, Scripture is always appropriate, Faulkner , but what's with the French translations?

Just doing my bit,

Here in Canada, we have two offical languages.

Gov't promotes Canadians who are bilingual.

Unlike the the States, just about anybody can go for the Presidency, but here in Canada if you don't speak French, later.

Bonjour.
