Default God's Secretaries

God's Secretaries: The Making of the King James Bible by Adam Nicholson

I have been reading reviews of this book, and wondered if anyone here has read it (although this book may be of more interest to students of the English language than the Bible.)

A Great Music

Quote:
The Geneva Bible, produced by English Puritans in exile, was spattered with contentious notes, and the King, with an instinct for the via media that the English Church had trod since the Reformation—fighting Rome temporally but often cleaving to it spiritually—wanted a Bible that smoothed contention into majesty. It was the job of the translators’ rhetoric to elide doctrinal differences. "This is the heart of the new Bible as an irenicon," Nicolson writes with typical shrewdness, "an organism that absorbed and integrated difference, that included ambiguity and by doing so established peace. It is the central mechanism of the translation, one of immense lexical subtlety, a deliberate carrying of multiple meanings beneath the surface of a single text."
I have also heard somewhere that some Christians have decided to reject the KJV because King James himself was a homosexual. Jack Chick rejects this but a contrary view is here, which I would feel better about if it weren't hosted on a UFO site, or here

Apparantly there was a special exemption a couple of times, but the rest of the time it's a terrible evil. Fortunately there was also special magic to prevent inbreeding idiots. It's a good thing we discovered logic so we could work this out, because they forgot to put those bits in the bible.

There are also people who genuinely believe this.

Pointing it out to people who haven't thought through some of the consequences of the stories in the bible can be cheap entertainment.

Btw, the Bible is a gigantic game of chinese whispers. It was passed from generation to generation as oral tradition long before it was written down, and it has been translated and retranslated over the last 2000 odd years, usually by people who couldn't agree on what words mean, resulting in multiple conflicting versions. Apparantly God inspires the chosen to know and understand The True Bible, and when they tell us what they believe, we're supposed to magically have faith in the right one, because until we choose and believe the right one God can't inspire us to believe that we made the right choice.

And you're worried about one single source of errors in the Bible?
