Default Will you attend services on Easter...

If you are an atheist and are visiting theist relatives over the Easter weekend, are you planning on attending services with them, just to keep peace and harmony in your family? Would you ever consider doing that?

Just curious.

Well I am spending Easter w/my Catholic family, but they haven't invited me to mass, just Easter dinner. If they wanted me to attend mass w/them I would go. No big deal. It's not like I'm gonna be de-de-converted or the roof is gonna cave in or anything.

But I would only go as long as it was an evening mass. I don't do early morning stuff for anyone & my entire family knows better than to ask me.

Naw. My family skips the formalities and jumps right to the chocolate bunnies and marshmallow Peeps.

Of course, my family hasn't been to church in years. My parents are theists (well, I'd say my dad's more into eastern philosophy but he believes in god, I think) but they don't have a church and don't have any interest in finding one.

The only reason I would attend Easter services is for The Messiah. I've sung in it (one year as a soloist, the next as a chorus girl) the past two years and it is one of the most rewarding musical experiences I've got to look forward to each year.

Nope, not at all. Any family whom I would consider visiting respects me enough to understand my beliefs and not let that break the harmony.

"Easter" ?
(where _is_ that verse in the bible about "easter", anyway?)

No, I'd say no thanks. If it was "required" to keep family harmy, we'd be in for a long talk about family harmony.

If it was a request to help celebrate, we'd have a talk about how hypocritical I'd feel being there knowing we had this differenc ein belief. But I can imagine conditions where I'd agree to go.

NO! Sorry to shout at you, spurly but I still resent the wasted time I spent in church during my youth. My family knows better than to ask. We have reached a level of mutual respect for each other's points of views. I don't ask them to skip church and they don't ask me to attend.

Funerals and weddings still happen, so no problem. The experience is more enjoyable now than ever. For the most part I feel like an invisible observer, the only person in attendance not hypnotized. Great perspective.

Unfortunately, yes I am, and I am expected to sing "He's Alive" but I won't. At least I have an excuse to get an outrageously expensive and gorgeous dress.
