Default O'Connor Isn't Retiring After All

It would appear that Justice O'Connor will be with us a while longer.

O'Connor Dismisses Rumors That She Plans to Retire From Court

Quote:
WASHINGTON, July 6 — Justice Sandra Day O'Connor (news - web sites) said today that she would serve out the next term of the Supreme Court, dismissing speculation that she was ready to retire.

In an unusual televised interview together with Justice Stephen G. Breyer she also denied longstanding reports that she had intended, in the year 2000, to retire unless Vice President Al Gore (news - web sites) became president.

So, now if we trade Renquist for a conservative we don't really change anything. And if Bush II hooks us up with another Souter (like his dad) we could actually have an even better court.

Hell Yeah!

The religious right is keenly aware of the possibility, and is on guard against another Souter. Of course, if Bush does put another Souter on the bench, the religious right may walk out of the Republican Party, which would be even better.

The Hispanic white house council guy. Is he a potential souter? And which vote is more important to bush, the Hispanic vote, or the right. Depending on the democrat candidate, the Bushies might figure they've got the right locked in anyway. It's like gay people and democrats. They weren't thrilled with "Don't Ask Don't Tell" but they sure weren't going to vote against Clinton, he was still the best choice for them.

That would be Gonzales. Some people are saying he would be a potential Souter. However, I have not done any research on him so I do not know.
