Post Catholic school children playing sports in a public school

THere is a topic under way by our board of education to allow students of our local catholic school participate in the extracuricular sporting events in our public school system. I was wondering if anyone has information or has heard of this happening before. Thx.

The devil is in the details. Will this result in a subsidy to the Catholic schools? Will they contribute space, material, etc? The Supreme Court has allowed some public aid to parochial schools, like computers and remedial teachers (I'd have to check - as I recall, the decisions are not exactly consistent).

I don't see this as anything that attacks church and state. I think the papists should have to pay whatever amount it costs to have a public kid play. This would be a case of the catholic school paying the public school, and the public school having a larger population to get athletes from. Am I missing something?

I don't think I understand the question. Here in Florida, Catholic and Christian public schools can quite easily become full-fledged members of the Florida High School Athletic Association and compete against public schools. In fact, this has become a point of contention because private schools tend to be smaller than public schools, but because they practice de facto recruiting, they are able to field sports teams that are much more competitive for their given size division. To that end, it has been proposed that private school students should count 1.5 for the purposes of determining size for athletics.

I'm pretty sure where I live those who chose to sned their children to private schools still pay their public school taxes. As long as the child uses the school the parent's taxes are going to then I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be allowed to use that school's facilities.
