<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/29/national/29BOST.html" target="_blank">Last Word on Abuse Policy Will Be Vatican's, Law Says</a>

Quote:
At the Mass this morning, the cathedral was less than half full, and there were about 30 protesters outside in the cold rain. One held a sign saying, "Resign, Law. What Would Jesus Do?"

Catherine Costello, 51, a registered nurse, who is a friend of Greg Ford, one of the abuse victims suing Cardinal Law, held a sign saying, "Get outraged! Rape is a crime."

"It's outrageous," Ms. Costello said. "Law is completely out of touch with reality. He only responds because he is forced to. It's unconscionable that a religious institution has to debate what constitutes sex abuse."
And in <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/international/AP-Palestinians-Bombers-Cult.html" target="_blank">other religious news</a>, "After a long debate, Muslim clerics are near consensus now that suicide bombings are permitted by Islam and that the bombers are martyrs."

In an NPR profile on Law yesterday I heard that he is extremely conservative and aggressively ambitious. Boston Catholics had no love for him prior to these - um - revelations. Also, there has been speculation that Law was bucking for the papacy. If so, this scandal might put that agenda off track. The best-laid schemes o' mitred men gang aft a-glay.
