Post So who really "Gives Life?"

I don't understand why religious groups say "God gave us life, only God can take it."

Firstly, our parents created us, but they're not the only reason why we're alive - there is a social contract between every member of society not to kill each other, so it could be said that we give each other life by not killing one another.

Secondly, I never asked to be born, why should I be obliged to be grateful unless I am happy with my life? Man is NOT a pot - a parent has no right to abuse a child.

Because they like snappy little saying that seem to make sense on the surface. Hence creationism. The issue of the "right to life" cannot be summed up in a short soundbite that rolls off the tongue well. When someone says that to you, simply force them to defend it, and to fully explain what they mean by it.

"God gave us life, only God can take it."

Perhaps they are reffering to things such as homicide, or very controversial matters such as abortion?

I doubt it - they're extremists.

I say that if God was so desperate to give me life, he should live in my shoes, not as an all-powerful Jesus-figure, but as a regular human being with flaws. Let's see God deal with MND.

Our parents created us did they? With what tools? And how did they get those tools?

This social contract idea is rather interesting. So you're saying that by me not stealing from you, i'm giving you your belongings.

No one asked for their birth. But can you honestly tell me that you regret it happening? Or even that you don't care that it happened?

Well you see, a man has an organ that we call "the penis" and the woman has "a vagina."

Is this frivolous guy for real??

I don't regret it, because I am content. But there are those who are unhappy, and would prefer to be dead, or not born at all.

I know about the human reproductive system. But what i'm saying is that we are created with tools that belong to our parents, and their tools were created by their parents and so on. So do you thank your parents for having sex, or do you thank who gave them the tools? It's much harder to create the tools than use them

Oweth. Mine feelings are hurteth. But I dont see how my sex life plays a role in this discussion.

A minority. There may be reasons that we don't know about, or their life may be part of a bigger plan.

Even if our parents were created by God, God did not tell them "Have a child". They chose to have kids of their own free will.

And with regards to the suffering and terminally ill - if they truly desire death, who are we to force them to live against their will? God gives us free will, to take that away is to usurp God's power, by your religion. Perhaps you'd also like to take a look at my euthanasia topic.

Edit: They might not be a minority if they didn't keep on dying.
