Post Any other Canadians sick of World Youth Day?

Just curious
Any Toronto infidels here who are sick of it? And why the hell are the police overstepping their bounds to please the church(getting rid of the guy handing out condoms)?

WYD has made me realise that Catholics do have an advantage over other Christian denominations: Catholics still have a living person to tell them what to think.

Not from TO but yes, as a Canuck, I'm sick of it just the same. Just count ourselves lucky this isn't an annual pilgrimage.

Lots of people have come to TO to see the Pope, bringing in tourist dollars and giving international attention for our city, which will bring in more. Sure, it's an inconvenience, but this brings in millions of dollars to the city and that's worth the trouble. Whatever else you may want to say about the Catholic church and the Pope, the man's a revenue generator, so I think it's good he's stopping by.

I got a kick out of the cute little honey who said the pope was vibrant and lucid.
Yeah, pope soap on a rope. I remember that.

In light of the current crisis in the Catholic Church, the Pope lamented celebrities wearing expensive crucifixes.

What is scarier, the fact that Jennifer Anniston wears a diamond crucifix, or that the pope watches "Friends?"

Red face

On my sweetiedarling's behalf: AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

As for me, I just want The [Toronto] Globe and Mail to refund me one week's subscription. Makes me want to pray for the souls of all the trees that died to give the old fart with the kippah (sp?) 6 pages per day.

Still, it gave T.O. archbishop Aloysius Ambrosic a chance to declare that "abortion is a greater sin than child abuse" - easy for him; little boys don't get pregnant.

If I was an honest priest, bishop or cardinal trying to serve God, I'm sure I wouldn't appreciate the wisecracks about the young boys.

That being said, I really am quite pleased with the media's sympathetic coverage. We see catholics with rosaries pinned to their hat by some Saint's talisman. We see catholics campaigning for women's ordination while handing out condoms.

All across Canada there are Christmas and Easter catholics eying the other factions, I'm not that sort of Catholic.

Nevermind the (approx) $5.00 municipal surtax every citizen of Toronto had to fork out for the privilege of hosting the old bastard's little party.
